Welcome to Coreanism.org. Some of you who are reading this are probably
wondering 'why are they spelling Corean with a C??'.
This is not a typo and not something we just made up. The name Korea is
from Koryo dynasty. The initial spelling was Corea or Coree, which was
understandable considering that the name was spelled in Latin or
French.
Most documents and books written before Japanese colonial rule
in the first half of this century, used Corea rather than Korea. .
In the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, Korean name was written as Corea
(in Spanish spelling in the opening ceremony), which is also used
in French version of Korea. Some nationalists claim that Japanese
intentionally promoted Korea instead of Corea, reason being that K
comes after J, and in the Olympics they did not want to come after
Corea http://www.coreanism.org/content.cfm?cat=about_us&file=about_us
